Viveka (Pali/Skt): seclusion, solitude, singleness (of heart), detachment; discrimination (of thought), discernment.

Seclusion is happiness for one who is content; who has heard the Dhamma and clearly sees.
Freedom from ill-will is happiness in the world, for one harmless towards living beings.
Dispassion is happiness in regard to the world, for one transcending all sense desires.
But the dispelling of the conceit ‘I am’ ~ this is truly the highest happiness.

Acknowledgement of Country: The above photo shows the beauty and presence of Mt Gulaga, a sacred mountain of the Yuin people, the indigenous Australians of the area where Viveka Hermitage is located. Gulaga is known as ‘mother mountain’ and represents the source of all life in Aboriginal mythology, holding particular significance for Aboriginal women. We respectfully acknowledge the Yuin people, the original inhabitants of this area, and pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging.
