Merri-bek Allyship Network Action Circle - 26 September 2023
Allyship Action Circles bring together people working towards allyship to share and discuss:
- what works,
- what doesn't work/challenges, and
- what you'd like to do.
We'll delve into the power dynamics and nuances of anti-racism action centring First Nations voices while supporting and challenging each other to take action. This Circle creates a space to share, ask questions, unpack our thoughts and discuss the nuances of The Voice Referendum, acknowledging the work that needs to continue beyond the Referendum.
Tuesday 26th September 2023

Who are Sowing Sistas: Living Together on Stolen Land?
- Dr Sue Lopez Atkinson AM - Yorta Yorta woman, Early Childhood Education Activist
- Deb Chapman - Anglo Australian, community worker in local and international sectors
- Aileen Traynor - Uruguayan-American, community worker backing First Nations led work
Sue, Deb and Aileen are reflective and action oriented community volunteers bringing different cultural perspectives and committed to the practice of anti-racism in the Australian context, centring Aboriginal people and perspectives. They have been creating together since 2015 developing Merri-bek Allyship Network activities, exploring how the broader community can be engaged more deeply in the work of anti-racism, and how we all show up to this work.
Sowing Sistas welcomes all genders...we aim to 'sow' seeds of anti-racism change/action centring First Nations voices. 'Sowing' is also a play on an acronym of the title of a course we developed and have facilitated a few times called 'Speak to Self, Speak to Others' (SSSO).
